The Huon Valley Show trialled a Back to Basics idea for the first time in 2018. Our Guild was invited to participate, giving an idea of how animal fibres become useful yarns and wearable garments. Set up alongside other exhibitors in a tent near the main entrance, our members interacted with many show patrons during the day. Spinning, weaving, handling fleeces, talking about dyeing, letting people know where our different groups meet, it was a productive day for our Guild. Children and adults had a go at weaving, taking home with them a coaster size piece of their handwoven woven fabric; others tried drop spindling; the spinning wheel, or asked a myriad questions about where, what, how and when. Big thanks to Sue, Eva, Glenys, Mike and Valeri. If you want to be involved in a community event, let your Guild secretary know.
