Virtual Dye Day - Mallow

Writer's picture: Bronwyn PlatzBronwyn Platz

"These two tiny skeins were both mordanted with alum and dyed with mallow leaves - a weed in my lawn. They were modified with iron,  both in the same dye bath, but the two different kinds of wool took the dye very differently. As the mallow leaves get mowed over quite frequently they are not very mature leaves. Without iron they give a yellow colour. I would like to try this again with a greater weight of leaves to the fibre. I used a ratio of about 1:1 in this dye bath."
