The use of different mordants and modifiers changes the results you achieve when using natural dyes. Guild President Di Kearney is giving us a mini-virtual workshop sharing her results of natural dye shades as she works her way through her garden. Di tells us that "This first photo is of a bit of an experiment that I tried while dyeing with apple leaves. After removing from the dyepot one end of the skein was placed in an alkaline modifier and the other end in an iron modifier. The green is quite strong and the other colours are actually more mustard gold than they look in this photo. I didn't control it all that well as the central part is a bit short and there are only small patches of darker gold."
