World Spin in Public Day – Saturday 20 September 2025

Each year, spinners and fibre enthusiasts around the globe take their craft outdoors to celebrate World Spin in Public Day. It’s a chance to share the beauty of spinning with the wider community, spark conversations, and inspire others to explore the world of fibre arts.
This year, the Handweavers, Spinners and Dyers Guild of Tasmania will be marking the occasion with events across the state. Come along to watch, learn, and join in the celebration.
Hobart
Where:Â TMAG (Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery), Dunn Place
When: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Guild members will be spinning a variety of beautiful fibres, sharing skills, stories, and the joy of traditional crafts. It’s the perfect chance to watch, learn, and be inspired. If attending please use only washed or processed fibre to avoid cross contamination with museum exhibits
Devonport
Where: paranaple arts centre, Market Square, 145 Rooke Street When: 10:00 am – 2:00 pmPart of the Expo of Everything, the Devonport Handweavers, Spinners and Dyers will showcase weaving, spinning, and dyeing. Come along to meet our makers, see demonstrations, and explore unique handmade creations.
Deloraine
Where:Â Meander Valley Arts Shop (formerly Brush Rabbit) When:Â 10:30 amJoin the Deloraine Spinners for a lively demonstration of fibre arts in the heart of town.
Launceston
Where: St Luke’s Health foyer, 93 Cimitiere St, Launceston TAS 7250When: From 10:00 amEnjoy spinning demonstrations  from the Launceston Textile Hub and browse a pop-up shop of handmade and fibre-related items.
